7 Things to Consider Before Getting a Website

1. Do you have a product or service of your own? Just putting up a cookie cutter or replicated web site as an affiliate is asking to fail.

2. Do you have a definite picture of your customer? Think about age, gender, occupation, economic status, location, marital status, any children and their ages.

3. Do you have a "niche" business? What are you offering that your competitors are not offering?

4. What is your "unique selling proposition" (USP)? What is special about your site and what you are selling?

5. Have you applied for your domain name yet? If you have a sub-domain, it marks you as an amateur. Is your domain name relevant to your web site?

6. Have you figured out how many "widgets" you need to sell to break even with your web site costs? How many customers must visit your website to buy just one "widget"?

7. Have you budgeted for any pay-per-click search engines or offline advertising? How about ezine advertising? Have you considered free advertising such as press releases for writing ezine articles?

If you don't have these basic 7 questions answered, then think twice about getting a website.
